WATJ August Announcements

WATJ Fall Workshop

Our first workshop of the 2017-18 school year will be on Saturday, September 9, at Everett Community College in the Nippon Business Institute. Joshua Hansell-sensei of Chief Sealth International High School will be presenting and sharing his summer work on realigning and revamping high school curriculum. General membership meeting will start at 9:00 am, and the workshop will run 10:00-12:00.

As always, clock hours are available free of charge for those who attend two or more of our annual workshops.

WAFLT Fall Conference

Registration is now available for the WAFLT Fall Conference at the Red Lion Hotel in Pasco, WA, October 12-14. Check out the full program details at the WAFLT website and register NOW!

WATJ membership is severely lacking in representation and we want to see you there!

The Consulate General of Japan is receiving a Public Awareness award at the ceremony on Friday night, and we want WATJ members there to represent our community and show our appreciation and solidarity! Our new Consul General Yamada has said he will personally come to receive the award, so this is a big, big, BIG deal!!

There will be many awesome presentations, including some presented by our very own WATJ members, so please do come to learn, share, and strengthen our community.

Additionally, there are very few workshops offered by Japanese teachers and we would love to have you submit a workshop proposal! Conference organizers are still accepting proposals to include in the program. Teachers interested in sharing ideas, presenting on new research or topics of interest should submit an online proposal. To expedite the process, you may also email Kei Tsukamaki at watjinfo@gmail.com and I will ensure that your proposal is reviewed.

Dear WATJ members,

I hope this message finds you well on these hot summer days.

This is to let you know that Bellevue College (BC) will be presenting “Japan Week @ BC” (Nihon Matsuri) during the first week of October. For many years BC has hosted an annual Japanese festival, “Aki Matsuri,” but with the retirement of the sponsor’s (Eastside Nihon Matsuri Association) president and driving force, 2015 was the last ENMA Aki Matsuri. Now, the BC Japanese Culture Exchange Club (JCEC), together with faculty, staff and community members, is planning a new, BC-sponsored event we call “Japan Week @ BC”  for Fall 2017.  In addition to student-focused events all week, the final day – Saturday, Oct. 7th – will be an all-day, all-ages festival open to the public featuring the cultural arts of Japan.

We are also now recruiting the many volunteers needed for the event.

We really appreciate your help and support in spreading the Japan Week @ BC. Thank you and hope to see many of you there!
