Dear WATJ Members:
WATJ members have a special opportunity to be part of a year-long, ongoing professional development workshop series led by Leslie Birkland-sensei of the Laurasian Institute. Birkland-sensei was founding president of WATJ and now works to train teachers hosting J-LEAP assistant teachers during their summer workshops. Birkland-sensei has volunteered to work with a small cohort of dedicated teachers in Washington who wish to incorporate best practices to improve Japanese language education in our state.
Birkland-sensei has offered to run monthly meetings at her house in Kirkland, times and dates tentatively scheduled for Saturdays but may be flexible based on members’ needs. Cohort applications are limited to six members, selected by Birkland-sensei based on your application information. Teachers who are interested in learning about different teaching methods, reflecting on their own teaching, and implementing changes should definitely complete an application to become a member of this professional development cohort!
Think of this opportunity as a Japanese-specific PLC whose goals are to help us become better at what we love to do: teach Japanese.
Apply here! Apply now! Applications will be reviewed by June 16th.
